Choose your AI models

Notebooker ships with first-party models as the defaults, and lets you swap in your own provider keys, a local model, or none of Notebooker's models at all.

Notebooker comes with its own first-party AI models set as the defaults, so everything works the moment you sign up. When you want more control over what reads your material, you can point Notebooker at a different provider, bring your own keys, or run a local model instead.

Your options

  • Notebooker’s built-in models (default). Nothing to configure. Your plan’s AI credit covers them.
  • Your own provider keys. Add an API key for OpenAI, Anthropic, or another supported provider and Notebooker uses your account directly, billed by that provider rather than through Notebooker. Only Notebooker AI and service usage counts against your credit - requests on your own keys never do.
  • A local model. Point Notebooker at a model running on your own machine or network so your material never leaves it.
  • None of ours. Choose providers so that Notebooker’s own models never see your data. “Your keys, your models” is a setting, not a promise.

Set it up

Open Settings and find the AI or Models section. For a hosted provider, paste the API key and pick which model to use for chat, insights, and creators. Keys are stored encrypted and only ever used for your own requests.

You can mix providers: one model for chat, another for podcasts, a third for embeddings. If a provider is down or a key is missing, Notebooker falls back to a working default so you are never stuck.
